Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Dog weights vary a lot because among all mammals these animals have the greatest range of body size in all their different types of breeds. Hence, if a prospective pet owner wants to know average puppy weights and help determine which dog would be ideal to own, there has to be some initial research on dog breeds and their sizes.

In general, dogs can be classified into three varieties based on their size. One is the standard variety which includes dogs whose weights range from a minimum of about 25 pounds to a maximum of 65 pounds. Then, there is the miniature variety with weights that could vary between 4 lb and 12 lb. Lastly, there is the giant variety which weighs around 100 lb or more. The heaviest dog, an English mastiff, was reported to have weighed 282 pounds.

Online resources can help determine average puppy weights. Many weight charts for different size varieties and breeds of dogs are available for free on most websites on man’s canine friends. The chart to be chosen has to be breed-specific.

Why Do Betta Fish Build Bubble Nests?

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

You might stumble upon your Betta fish one day and see that he has a created bubbles that are now filling the cage. There is nothing actually wrong with your Betta when it makes these bubbles. It turns out that these bubbles form what is known as a Betta fish bubble nest. Bettas create bubbles in order to build a nest for their eggs, which typically take refuge in these bubbles. Male Betta fish will build these nests in hopes of attracting a mate. However, you cannot jump the gun and just put a female Betta fish in with your male as they have an extensive courting ritual. Just enjoy the bubble nest and know that it means that your Betta fish is likely to be very healthy and happy. Bettas will not expend the energy to create a nest if they are not feeling well or are sick, so bubble nests are always a good sign.

Tower Cat Furniture

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

One type of cat furniture that you may be interested in getting is a cat tree – a cat condo if you want something more complex. If you take your cat to your garden or lawn from time to time, you might be interested in getting him cat stairs, or a scratching post or two. A scratching post should help your cat get some exercise and get the outer portion of his nails off. Cats tend to love scratching, and cats tend to scratch all the time, mostly to get rid of the dead cells on their nails, which are often right under the claws. They also do this so they are able to stretch their muscles quite well. In fact it is expected of cats to do a good amount of scratching on a daily basis. The best way to go about this is to be prepared for it with scratching posts for cats, as cats really are expected to do a good amount of damage.

Dealing with Dog Shedding

Monday, July 4th, 2011

Pets owners understand the importance of caring for their animal friends. Dogs can make excellent additions to a family. They provide companionship and love to their owners. Having a dog requires understanding its needs. This includes food, water, shelter and care. Regular grooming can keep a dog comfortable and healthy. All pet owners have to contend with dog shedding. This shed hair can adhere to carpets, floors, bedding and furniture. Too much can aggravate skin conditions for the animal and inflame allergies for families. The proper thing to do is to initiate proper grooming for the animal. This removes dander and excess hair before it becomes a problem. Some pet owners opt to use the services of a professional dog groomer. While this is nice, it can become quite costly. Dogs need regular grooming. Skimping on the pet care is not an option for responsible pet owners. This is where having a collection of good grooming tools allows them to groom their pet at home. A good pet store can provide owners with shampoos to cleanse their animals. This cuts down on unpleasant odors. A good store will have an array of combs and brushes to groom the animal without scratching their skin.

Studying and Smoking

Now that I am in Law school – my ultimate dream is very much within my grasp. But that is not the point of this post; what I’m going to talk about is how Law School affected my health. This may come as a very common phenomenon which you hear and read from a lot of other law students out there, but for the benefit of emphasis, here it is: law school will make you very unhealthy. You will smoke a lot, you will drink a lot of caffeine and you will read a lot and stay up very late. Your health will be very hard to control it is like learning How to Train Aggressive Dogs. Take it from me, the whole experience really feels that way.

It is like making the impossible, possible. But if there is anything that you have to remember when it is your turn to experience this (to those of you who wants to be a lawyer), it is the fact that many survived this and are now very much successful in their fields. If your neighbor can do it, there is no reason for you to give up on your dreams.

Have You Heard About Working Cats?

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Its common for cats to be stereotyped as lazy and spoiled. Our common image is of a cat lying around, waiting to be fed, or waiting to scratch someone. Although this is often the case, there are surprisingly many working cats in the world. They usually work as mousers, providing an invaluable service and removing dirty pests from the area. Cats are more than just a stereotype. They can be friends, associates, and a comforting presence to those that are lonely, in need, or simply desiring friendship. We’re not sure why they say that dogs are mans best friend. They may be one of mans friends, but cats are also quite excellent partners for human beings. We hope that you don’t forget to adopt cats that may be orphaned or lacking in affection. There are so many cats that sadly have to be euthanized because they don’t have a home. Please don’t let that happen.

Too Much is Never a Good Thing

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Some people say, The more the better. But for me I say, too much of anything is never good. Why do you think man created scissors, knives, pet grooming clippers, garden mowers, electric shavers and so on? Its because sometimes, we have to keep certain things to a minimum. Having too much of anything rarely leads to good. Even with the weather we know that too much heat can cause droughts. Too much cold can cause hypothermia. Too much rain results in floods. Eating too much will make you sick but on the other hand, being too thin will make you sick as well. The key in life is balance. We have to keep everything at a bearable rate. Not too much and not too little. Below or beyond that will cause problems for sure. To have enough we must work for it. To not have too much, we need discipline and again, work. This principle applies to almost everything in life and once you’ve mastered it, life can be pretty amazing.

Dog Training: How to Train a Shy Dog

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Training a shy dog can give you a hard time. However, dog training is never difficult if you are passionate and patient about it. So no matter how shy, aggressive or unruly and destructive your dog is, you need to make sure that you provide what he needs, particularly when it comes to training.

Fortunately, training a rather shy dog can be done with ease, safety, pleasure and efficacy. There are numerous dog training methods that can help you out so that you can successfully train your dog regardless of his habits or behavior issues. All you have to do is carefully choose the most appropriate method of training so as to ensure effectiveness and productivity.

Train a shy dog to do various act in a slow manner. Do not force or coerce your pet to automatically adhere to your dog training commands. Start with socialization and make sure that you follow the basics and fundamental rules of socializing a dog, particularly if you are to do it in public places. Give your dog some time to learn and adapt. Make him feel secured, comfortable and loved. Expose him to many people, places and animals.

Shyness can be prevented. Indeed, you can actually prevent the occurrence of such behavior through early and consistent dog training for obedience routines. The earlier you start training your dog, the more favorable results you can get. That is why puppy training is strongly encouraged. If you begin training your puppies for some basic obedience lessons and consistently do the routines, then they will grow more sociable, obedient and responsible.

Alternative Materials for Horse Fencing

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Vinyl fencing is an excellent option for horse owners who want to create a safe and attractive habitat for their horses. Vinyl fencing looks good enough to fit in with even the most upscale neighborhood, and many horse owners choose to install this type of fencing in the front of their homes while using less expensive fencing options for the rear of the property.

• Electric fencing is easy to install and it is one of the least-expensive options for keeping your horse where he belongs. Horse owners can easily fence in a couple of acres in a single day by pounding poles into the ground, installing the insulators, stringing the electric fence wire and plugging in the charger.

• Hot tape combines the low expense and easy installation of electric fencing with the high visibility and durability of vinyl and wood fencing. Unlike traditional electric fencing, hot tape is designed to be very visible, since the electric filaments are embedded in a white plastic material that is easy for horses and other animals to see from a distance.

What Cat Owners Need to Know

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

Every cat owner knows that there are a ton of things that you can get for your cat, and of course my favorite things include a cat tree, a circle ball, and probably one of the funniest things I have is one of those dangling toys which both my cats absolutely go bonkers over. I actually got this thing at a dollar store, and of course picked up two of them because I didn’t know how well they would actually hold up but how crazy my cats can get it at times. However, I have only had to use one of them because it has been really quite durable, but my cats have gotten way more than the dollar I paid for it out of it. I love holding this thing in the angling for them to come and play with, and my youngest cat who is just a kitten, will run past it and swat it, and then jump up and try to grab it. If you don’t have one of these toys, I highly suggest you get one.

Dog Food Made at Home

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Have you ever given Max the meat from a leftover turkey leg, or even put together most of the dinner for your dog. It feels just as good to watch your dog lap it up with obvious pleasure as it does when your family is happy with their holiday meal. Cooking for your dog is not as overwrought as some would have you believe. There are many dog food recipes available, some better than others of course, and for those written by nutritionists or other experts, you’ll have to buy the book. Do the proper research on the required ingredients. The internet offers a wide range of dog food from specialty biscuits to stews and even (sugarless) doggie desserts. As with any new food, check ingredients with your vet to prevent your dog from developing allergies or other medical issues. Never add onions or garlic. Onions create a blood disorder that is life threatening – garlic can cause a reaction, especially in small dogs. Your holistic pet supply store will carry additives like vitamins, but if you use whole foods (ground lamb, chicken thigh, lean hamburger, bison, fish, duck, beef liver, heart, etc.) and combine those with fresh cooked or freeze dried vegetables and a dash of oil, like olive and salmon oil, for EFAs.

Don’t Buy All Those Bird Toys When Bringing Home Your New Parrot

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Just recently I brought home a baby Congo African Grey. Aside from the bird, a cage, some perches, a few bird toys, and food, I waited a day to decide what the bird cage would accommodate once it was set up. I am glad that I did this because it allowed me to visualize where I could place items inside the cage and what types of toys would be great for my birds new cage. Initially I came home with a mineral perch, an extra large comfy perch and a few toys. Once my bird settled in it was easier to where there was sufficient room for other items. This allowed me to pick out some nice parrot toys, a parrot swing, a cholla perch, and some odds and ends for my new bird. I find that it is best to set a new cage up this way. Otherwise you may end up buying items that you don’t need.

Can My Saltwater Aquarium Be Sold For A Lot Of Money?

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I often run into this very question, and it can be sort of a double edged sword. People can easily invest thousands of dollars into a saltwater aquarium, but if and when they decide to sell it, they might find that it’s kind of hard to get as much money as you think the aquarium might really be worth. Why is this? Well, for one, as with anything, aquarium value depreciates over time. New hardware turns into used hardware quite quickly. Sometimes even new hardware can look like it’s been in operation for years with only a couple months of use. This doesn’t mean the hardware is worn out, it just means that the hardware looks worn because it gets quickly covered in saltwater evaporation. Another thing to consider is the fact that if you sell a saltwater aquarium that is already set up, it will take a lot more work to get it moved out of your house, especially if the buyer wants to keep a lot of it intact. The amount of work involved with this can even out the benefits involved with buying a used aquarium.
