Things to Do for Better Plant Health

Monday, October 17th, 2011

Choosing the right crop and a good seed is the start of ensuring a good plant health. However, the real challenge comes as we begin to sow them and eventually take care of them as they grow.

As much as possible, use the organic process in growing plants as this method is not only healthy to the crops but is also eco-friendly. Use compost as natural fertilizer, and let natural predators and beneficial insects thrive as they help in the pest control. Provide enough water as needed and ensure that the plants have the essential nutrients they can get from the soil like nitrogen, potassium and magnesium. The right amount of sunlight, and proper temperature and humidity must be observed. Mulching and pruning are done at appropriate amount. Weeding also helps lessen the competition of the plants in getting the nutrients from the soil. Carefully doing some mechanical works can also lessen the physical and mechanical damages to the plants and maintain a good plant health.

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Most lawn grubs are white. White grubs include Japanese beetle larva, Crazy fly larva, Asiatic beetle larva, and more. White grubs tend to be very small in size. A lot of times, they will look like short and stout earthworms. They are typically three quarters of an inch in length and less than one quarter of an inch in diameter. During the day, they like to hide in your lawn, and under rocks. At night they like to come out and eat your lawn. This is so that they can avoid predators, and also they want to avoid moving around when it is hot during the day. Most of the time, white grubs have chewing mouthparts, that allow them to chew up large chunks of your grass,. If you think that you may have lawn grubs, the most important thing you can do is to not procrastinate and to treat your lawn immediately. The longer you wait to treat them, the worse your lawn will look.

There are many ways to landscape a garden so that it has a mountain view. But one of the most important things to remember in mountain view landscaping are the lights. Do You Like to Have Organic Vegetable Garden?

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Currently, there are not many people growing their own organic vegetable garden in their backyard. We now trust the supermarket to supply us with the food we want to consume every day. Although there is nothing wrong with this, if you have your own garden, you will know how to grow it. You can use natural fertilizer to grow your vegetable garden.

Unlike the vegetable, you can buy from the supermarket, you will never know how they grow the vegetables. They could use chemical fertilizer. Actually, chemical fertilizer has side-effects for our body if it does not use properly. The chemical fertilizer also can cause land pollution. You can help reduce the land pollution if you use natural fertilizer. So if you want to grow your own vegetable in your backyard, you should not use the chemical fertilizer because you can harm your children when they play in the garden.

Teens and Responsibility

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

I run a small youth group and we meet once a week to discuss what’s going on in their lives and in our community. As a service project not very long ago, we did a cleanup project in the park and collected bags and bags of things that should never have been there. After taking on this task the kids decided that another community project we could have is to teach the community about the benefits of recycling. I thought it was a great idea. After ordering these great recycling bins, we set out to make flyers and hold meetings to inform our friends and neighbors about recycling. It did start off slowly at first, as people aren’t likely to change too quickly, but picked up speed along the way. Word of mouth was a benefit in this situation because it gave people something to talk about that they’d not discussed before. The park has remained clean and people are really using the bins. It takes a small change, and this was a small change, but a very beneficial one, that leads everybody in the right direction.

Grow Plants with Fluorescent Grow Lights

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Planting fruits and vegetables are now possible to do inside your house with the help of the fluorescent grow lights. This type of light has the light or energy almost closer to the lights from the sun. Though the light from the sun is way stronger than these lights it can still make plants grow considering that you have met all the requirements needed for them to grow like the proper amount of place, its placement and also you have to consider the watt requirement.

Planting inside your home is more tedious compared to planting outside where it can have the natural sunlight that it needs. You really have to make sure that all your plants are getting the right amount of light for them to live, or else they will die. Study the concepts of planting inside your home first before you try to do it yourself. You can also ask some help of a friend if you can find one.

The Little Extras

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Sometimes, the best benefits of buying an old house come with the little extras that are included. Often, that can mean an attic full of goodies to explore, a basement full of hidden secrets, or, in our case, an old metal shed in the backyard full of photographic equipment and tools! We purchased this adorable little cottage (a bit of a fixer-upper) last May, and we had a grand old time exploring all of the nooks and crannies. Imagine our surprise, though, when we popped off the lock to the metal shed out back of the property and discovered a fortune in old cameras, lenses and other photographic goodies — all in pristine condition. My husband, of course, was more interested in the collection of tools we found. See, you just do not get surprises like this when you purchase a new property. Then again, you are not always this lucky with old properties. At our last house, we discovered some little treasures in the attic in the way of woodworm and mice — not quite as wonderful!
